ABQICC Monthly Good News Letter – winter edition

A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones.
Proverbs 15:30

Note & Thank You From The Author

I (Byford Damon) love reading the “Mobile Good News Email”! I encourage you all to read it and subscribe too (Click the image to read), For it inspired me to create our own “ABQICC Monthly Good News Letter” (AMGNL)

I felt it was time to share with the world the little highlights of our small growing church here in Albuquerque, NM. So then I put my idea too action. The church really enjoyed the first issue in October which prompted me to go ahead and to continue it in November. Something that also encouraged me to pursue this further was that I learned the October Good News Letter had prompted a church member’s family to donate which helped contribute to the church blowing out its special missions goal. Which was shared about in the November publication. Also now every new miracle that occurs can be documented and shared. For example, the first Navajo couple being baptized and later married! Our small church is still developing and with that comes a lot of firsts and now that this is in existence, the world (and most importantly) the city of Albuquerque will know!

Before we get on to the winter good news, I would just like to thank the readers for taking time out of their day to read our past publications of the “Monthly Good News Letter” will be known here forth as The “ABQICC Monthly Good News Letter” Our hope is that through all the bad news out there, you can read and see that there is good news happening too. Although these writings fill us with joy, we also pray and hope that this letter will prompt you to get closer to God and to his church. As proclaimed from the Apostle john.

We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete.
1 John 1:3-4

Though we know that good news is versatile and can come in all shapes and sizes, we also know the ultimate good news is that Jesus died for our sins and allows us a chance to eternal salvation. So this publication’s purpose is to also motivate the church to get to work and create more good news for months to come. We are looking forward to 2020 and the miracles that will further fuel the fire!

The “Winter Good News Letter” covers December 2019 through February 2020. We were really busy with the Christmas holiday and helping out the less fortunate. We also spent a lot of time with each other as a newly planted church building family does.

I Chose Such Capable Helpers: Thank You Media Team!

He chose capable men from all Israel and made them leaders of the people, officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.
Exodus 18:25

I thought this should be said before anything because I am so grateful for these individuals. These guys worked super hard on this publication! Excitingly on February 16, 2020 the ABQICC media team was launched! Though I (Byford Damon) love doing the media for the International Christian Churches both in Phoenix and now here in Albuquerque. I have found it becoming more than I can handle, between working at my job 30-40 hrs a week, family, my small business “Edifi Studios”, and the newly publication of the “ABQICC Monthly Good News Letter” the work had become a little heavy. However, now thanks to my wife and these wonderful servants we have a team of editors and writers!

“It is exciting to hear all the plans and ideas that the disciples have. I’m really looking forward to what the media team will produce for ABQICC this year!”

Hats off to the ABQICC MEDIA TEAM which was launched on Feb 16,2020! (left to right) Byford Damon, Jaida Wilson, Izaac Pacheco, Felisha Griego, Christina and Sarah Lomeli and Hunter Gallegos (not pictured) Millie Damon! Picture of their first meeting.

God Loves Cheerful Givers!

Here is a quick shout out to Peter Rico, Albuquerque’s newest MERCY (Maximizing Efforts for Relief Care and Youth) Coordinator!

A year prior to being in Albuquerque, disciples Peter Rico and Ivan Soto (left to right) pray for a MERCY event in Pomona, CA; Peter never imagined one day being a MERCY Coordinator!

On December 18th, 2019, the Albuquerque Mercy branch group (led by Peter Rico) took a 3 hour trip to Tséhootsooí Diné Bi’Ólta’, a Navajo language immersion elementary school in Window Rock, AZ. The disciples delivered wrapped gifts for our 2nd Annual MERCY Toy Drive. They also watched the children’s Christmas performances and played musical chairs with the children afterward. The kindergarten and 1st grade children were very encouraged to receive presents and have a fun time!

As a church, we were all encouraged to spend Christmas and New Year’s Eve together! The goal is to build a tight knit family! We did a White Elephant gift exchange and played the classic card game Mafia!

Kingdom Appointments

The Esparza’s have been working hard in Albuquerque building God’s church!

Under the Esparza’s leadership, beginning in the Summer of 2018, the church in Albuquerque has seen incredible growth! More than doubling from the original 13 members to now 27 members!

On January 5th, 2020, the Esparza’s were appointed! Everardo Esparza was appointed and charged to preach the word in Albuquerque as an Evangelist. Jennifer Esparza was given the charge to support her husband and lead the women as an appointed Women’s Ministry Leader.

The Albuquerque church was in full support. They joyfully shouted out as their amazing leaders were appointed. They are very proud of the Esparza’s and their journey in leadership.

The disciples literally jump for joy!
We love the Esparza’s!

The Plan For 2020: The Year Of Vision

ABQICC has a plan for 2020. The church as a whole has a goal to grow to 50 members by 2021! This goal was realized after coming back from being inspired by all the of awesome lessons at the 2020 Southwest Winter Workshop in Phoenix.

The Albuquerque and Phoenix leaders prepare for a powerful Southwest Winter Workshop!

The following Bible talks goals are to contribute to the overall church goal. The Marrieds “H.D. Bible Talk” (High Desert Bible Talk), led by Everitt and Reina Briley has a goal to triple its size in 2020 and start an additional Bible Talk somewhere in the city!

(from left to right): Millie and Byford Damon, Shelvin and Kelly Shorty, (in the back) Felisha Griego and (front) Reina Briley (taking picture) Everitt Briley. The H.D. (High Desert) Bible Talk sit down for a meal before they talk about their plan for the city of Albuquerque

The Briley’s were the original Singles Bible Talk leaders and now they pass these roles to Peter Rico and Sarah Lomeli!

The LIFE (Love Is For Everyone) Campus Ministry also has big plans! They are now on two campuses – the University of New Mexico and Central New Mexico Community College.

The CNM Bible Talk, “The Initiators” was sent out at the Southwest Winter Workshop! (left to right, in blue): Izaac Pacheco, Angelo Calderon, Chris Martin, Christina Lomeli, and Kionna Russell. Also pictured are Tim & Lianne Kernan who lead the City of Angels International Christian Church, Mike & Brittany Underhill which over see the South West churches and the Albuquerque leaders, Everardo and Jennifer Esparza.

The CNM Bible Talk meets for the first time and nearly have one-for-one visitors. Go initiators!

Chris Martin, the leader of the Campus Ministry, states: “So fired up for what God will do on the Central New Mexico Community College Campus this year! Today, we had our first Bible Talk and we had almost one for one in attendance as 4 friends came out! Please pray for many miracles and all the studies we have set up to be successful and for UNM’s first Bible Talk on the 20th to be amazing!”

(left to right): Byford and Millie Damon, the newly appointed Campus Shepherds of the Albuquerque International Christian Church!

Last but not least, the Damon’s were asked to serve as Campus Shepherds to help the campus disciples in life lessons and to be there for them as parental figures. Byford and Millie Damon were part of the fiery Phoenix campus movement in 2008 and were encouraged to breathe that same fire into the campus ministry here in Albuquerque!

A Righteous Prayer is Powerful And Effective

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
James 5:16

The campus had an all-night prayer on January 24th, 2020. They prayed for the city of Albuquerque and took prayer requests from across the Sold-Out Discipling Movement. Each man and woman were assigned a charge to help the night of prayer propel along!

A Man After God’s Heart/House

Brandon Cano is a man after God’s heart since being converted in the Summer of 2019. He has been nothing but serving. If anyone, anywhere needs anything, he will drop what he’s doing and be there with all smiles and more! On January 3rd, 2020 he became the first person in the ABQICC to be a home owner. Just as Brandon’s prayer it has become a meeting spot for all kinds of events. This is also the new home for the ABQICC single brother’s household. Since he has gotten the house, the men have had several bible studies and several Men’s Midweek services. The women also had Women’s Midweek service there too! We look forward to many more meetings in “Gods House” the way Brandon has put it.

A very happy Brandon Cano when he receives his keys to his new house that he’s vowed to use for God’s Kingdom

First of many Bible studies that will be done in this house!

Not Enough Room

A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them.
Mark 2:1-2

One Sunday, January 19, 2020 the ABQICC disciples had a record attendance in church there was 42 People worshipping and praising God. Although there was barely enough room to worship, the ABQICC disciples were fired up!

First Fruit Of The Decade

Chris Martin had been praying and was determined to find someone that wanted to study the Bible. He came across a young single gentleman by the name of Ernie Chavez. After a few weeks of Bible study, prayer, and wrestling with God, Ernie Chavez became your brother at 11:30PM on January 29th, 2020! Ernie was not only the first conversion of 2020 for Albuquerque but he was the first conversion of the new decade! Please pray for your brother’s new walk and also add him on social media. His name is written in the book of life and he is now your brother in Christ!

(left to right, back to front): Chris Martin, Ivan Soto, Izaac Pacheco, Angelo Calderon, Ernie Chavez, and Everardo Esparza The brothers say, “you’re next” and Ernie, the new disciple, is pointing at the Father!

FEBRUARY 2019

Super Bowl Super Turn Out

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.
1 Corinthians 9:24

February 6, 2020 was the church’s Super Bowl Sunday service! On this day the members really wanted the prize for they exceeded their record attendance from 42 to 52 people!

Love Is In The Air

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor:
If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.
Ecclesiastes 4: 9-10

The Marrieds and the Singles had their Annual Valentine’s encouraging dinner’s. The Singles and Campus ministries volunteered to watch the married couples’ kids on Thursday, February 13, so that they could have a great time at Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen. Their new friends Emily and Thomas Gutierrez joined in on the fun too! The single brothers encouraged the single women with yellow roses and paid for their meals at Chili’s the next day Friday, February 14.

A New Place to Worship

And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
Matthew16:18-19

February 16, 2020, was our first time gathering in our new place of worship “A Better U Barber Academy”! One of the brothers, Ernie Chavez, is attending the academy and a friend of ours, Miss B., has been getting her hair done there regularly. God is awesome as Miss B. was able to help us secure a place at the academy to worship! Our lead evangelist, Everardo Esparza gave an awesome welcome! Then Ernie Chavez prayed for the service. Bryan Clark shared a heart-felt communion and Byford Damon challenged us to imitate the Macedonians in their giving by encouraging the church to continue to be Macedonian givers. Chris Martin, the campus minister, preached a powerful sermon. The service was ended with a victory. The brothers from the Singles ministry introduced Devin Bright who came to make Jesus Lord of his life!

ABQICC’s Future Is Looking Bright!

“For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”
1 Timothy 4:8

Our brother, Angelo Calderon has been prompting the ministry to work out. He and Bryan Clark met a young track athlete, Devin Bright at Crunch Fitness during their work-out. After some Bible-studies and prayer, on February 16, 2020 Devin Bright became your brother in Christ!

A Decade & More

“As for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more. My mouth will tell of your righteous deeds, of your saving acts all day long— though I know not how to relate them all. I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, Sovereign LORD; I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone. Since my youth, God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds”.
Psalm 71:15-17

Our Evangelist, Everardo Esparza was baptized on Feburary 27, 2005! He has spent exactly 15 years of his life in the kingdom of God! Amazingly, he is now at the point where he has spent half of his full life being a sold out disciple! Way to go Everardo! The church is proud of you. Keep fighting the fight! We look forward to great things through your leadership here in Albuquerque International Christian Church!
